- Although a major focus for our current roadmap was system reworks, we want to reiterate that we have more content coming in 2022, including Heroes and Villains.
Heroes, divided; T’Challa, resolute. Inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther’s Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War Outfit features a future king, and is available now in the Marketplace!
New Takedowns! Take it to the ring with some wrestling moves. Get Black Panther’s Surprised, Aren’t You and Kate Bishop’s Watch Where You’re Going and bring on the smackdown!
This week continues the Cosmic Glow Outfit set. Make sure to pick it up if you like the shimmer and shine!
A blast into the cosmetic past! This week’s Flashback Bundles include ones for Thor, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, and a combo one for Hulk and Black Widow.
The Marketplace is a place for us to feature purchasable cosmetics in the form of Outfits, Emotes, Takedowns, and Nameplates. The Marketplace’s Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary items rotate weekly, and can be purchased with Credits.
We pulled up our virtual chairs with our Systems Designer Melad Darbandi to talk about gaming and working on Marvel’s Avengers!
1. Can you give us a quick introduction about who you are and what you do on the team? What have you done on Marvel’s Avengers? (that you can share!)
Hey everyone, I’m Melad and I’m currently a Systems Designer on Marvel’s Avengers for Crystal Dynamics. I’ve largely been responsible for almost all of the mission chains you see in the objectives menu, some of the rewards in those chains in collaboration with progression, creating the live events we’ve run so far (chase the Cargo Runner quickly!), adding a bunch of outfits and other cosmetics for you to show off in, and doing a lot of the onboarding to new systems and features as they release. I work many other things as well; I just can’t share them with you right now. 😉
2. Besides Marvel’s Avengers, what other games have you worked on, and what was your role on those projects?
Before Marvel’s Avengers, I worked on Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: Infinite in a QA capacity for many years. It was a lot of fun to get to work on one of my favorite franchises of all time just like I am now with Marvel’s Avengers.
3. What led you to working in the video games industry?
The joy, hype, and celebration I feel when a new video game I’m looking forward to releases is something I wanted to have a hand in creating for others. I also enjoy critiquing, even if it’s just for me, the method in which other games handle rewards, missions, progression, combat, and other mechanics. I wanted to put my money where my mouth was, so to speak, and take action on how I’d approach these same mechanisms through actual game development.
4. What’s your earliest gaming memory?
Playing Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. as a kid. My brother’s the one who introduced me to games and my interest just took off ever since.
5. What do you wish everyone knew about games development?
Sometimes we nail a particular feature, sometimes we miss the mark. Game development, especially in today’s landscape of games living much longer than usual, is an ever-evolving iterative process. What matters is how we respond to the issues that come up and what we’re willing to do to make it better. I don’t think we can look at a game and say it’s “done” because developers will always look back and think, “I wish we could’ve done XYZ better or differently.”
6. What is your favorite thing about working at Crystal Dynamics?
It is without a doubt the people I get to work with every day. We have an incredibly supportive and encouraging team where we’re always helping each other be better, do better, and learn from our successes and failures.
7. Can you give our community a hint at something fun you’re currently working on?
Whatever I say would make me sound like a …. Liar Liar.
8. If you could give a prospective Crystal Dynamics employee one bit of advice, what would it be?
Be open about your feedback and thoughts on Crystal’s games and how you’d like to contribute to their future. We all support and motivate each other so bringing that level of encouragement with you will help yourself as well as your team. And the games end up better for it which is the goal.
9. Who are your heroes?
Can’t go wrong with Steve Rogers.
10. Anything you want to say to our community?
I’m always lurking r/PlayAvengers and Resetera for feedback and thoughts on Marvel’s Avengers. We’re always listening and we care about your experiences in and out of the game. I love you 3000.
